Sew Infant Lovies For Children's Health NICU
Wednesday, February 19th
5 PM - 7 PM
Fab Lab (Art E Annex, Studio 2, 1301 S Goodwin Ave, Urbana, IL 61801)

We will be sewing infant "lovies" to donate to NICU babies through Children's Health Hospitals. Infant lovies are flat soft flannel hearts designed to transfer scents between a baby and their parents. Each Lovie package contains two hearts. One is placed under the baby, and the other is given to the parents to keep next to their skin. When the parents visit their baby, the hearts are swapped to transfer the scents between them, helping build a strong bond. No sewing experience is necessary! I'll spend the first hour teaching you the basics of sewing using a machine and the second hour creating the lovies. The pattern is very simple (sew along a curved line and then flip fabric inside out) so don't be intimidated! Email sziaj2@illinois.edu with any questions.

Time slots from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM

People in need of food often don't get the opportunity to go out to eat at a restaurant. This weekly meal helps people in our community who are in need of food while also making them feel respected and valued by creating a restaurant-like atmosphere. It also reduces food waste by using the bread that Panera gives to Jubilee Cafe at the end of the day. Volunteers have the opportunity to be a server, host, greeter, or help set up and clean up.
